Afros are amazing. Fair play to anyone who can keep one permanently!
Anyway, changed my driver door lock actuator over to a Maplins one yesterday as the standard one was on the way out. What a pain in the arse that turned out to be! Took bloody ages to get it lined up straight so it would lock the door properly...
Old one:

New one, 'bodge-fitted' to the original bracket:

It was rather frustrating, to say the least! Never mind, it's done now... Well, until one of the other four fail and I have to swap them over as well...

By four I meant three, of course. I don't have five doors with central locking motors.
Saying that, I may swap the motors over in all the doors, the Maplin ones are so much quieter than the Metro's! But I really don't know if I can be arsed to do the work.

Was hoping of changing mine over at some point but doesnt sound like fun lol. Looking good so far then. Why didnt the other half just go in the house rather than staying in the car?

Your GTi will be fine mate, Mk3 is a straight swap over (as far as I'm aware), Mk4 is more complex because you have to modify the bracket and whatnot. I'd go for it, the Maplin motors are 100x better, quieter and faster, just a pisstake to line up properly on the Mk4 brackets. (And no, I don't know what the difference is in brackets/location inside the door)

Re: Alex's Rover 114 GSi *PIC HEAVY*
Right, booked in for its' MOT for Thursday, got a new numberplate already for it as my current one is a bit mangled... It will probably need a few other bits though, track rod ends and a new flexipipe (many thanks to Download festival for that one!)
I should really get my spoiler sprayed up and fitted...

Verrrry badly. The Metro will sadly be coming off the road for a while! On the hunt for something to get me to and from work, and most importantly, as my next daily driver project...
Re: Alex's Rover 114 GSi *PIC HEAVY*
Sad times man still like you said next project...

I think I'm gonna garage the 'Tro though to be honest, fix it in due course. It's gonna cost nearly £400 to get it through the MOT, may as well consolidate my debts, take out a bit more and get something that's not gonna be ruined again by the time 2013's MOT comes around! This is all bearing in mind it had two failures and 12 advisories... It's just not sustainable at the moment.
However, I'm considering one of these...

OUCH! thats quite a bill. I think i'd be looking to do the same to be honest. Fair play, the Seat Ibiza's are a nice car, and being part of the VW group, you'll have decent reliability and build quality. What engine you thinking of going for? 1.4?

Re: Alex's Rover 114 GSi *PIC HEAVY*
Smaller than that mate, 1.2, they're insurance group 3. What with 3 points for speeding (which will be coming off my licence soon), one accident that was my fault (but put down to mechanical fault) and one non-fault claim, I need something that's gonna drop my insurance as much as possible! Admittedly, it'll be slower than the 'Tro, but it'll be fine! 47mpg too...

Ah, fair enough mate that's pretty good MPG for a petrol! I'll probably still be quite nippy though. Same engines as they run in the Polos, quite a nice drive to be fair.
