The New Project! Empty The New Project!

Right guys, so as I'm sure the majority of you are aware, my little Pug died a horrible death a week ago at the hands of some bitch of an old woman who didn't bother stopping (or slowing down for that matter) at a roundabout in Swindon.

Now, I needed a new car, and fast. I'd put my mother's 1.6 Fiat Brava (I know guys, depressing or what) on mine & Katie's joint insurance policy, and it had gone up from £229 a month between us to £323 a month, which really wasn't practical. So I trawled the web for hours trying to find a new, more economical motor.

Whilst in Oxford dropping off my dog with my mother (she's taken her this week, Katie has surgery tomorrow and won't be able to walk her while I'm at work all week) I ran across an advert that interested me on eBay, a little Rover 114 GSI that happened to be 7 miles down the road from where we were at the time. I know, I know, not French, but I thought, might as well!

So I went over and had a nosey at this little machine. Non-power steering model, but I don't think they ever made a power steering model except for the GTIs. Slight rust on the rear arches. But oh my god, I fell in love with it! Despite those two flaws, it's brilliant. 1997 (R) plate. 1.4l engine. 64,330 miles. 4 previous owners, the person I bought it off (old lady in her 60s) had owned it since 2007. New exhaust. Four new tyres. Recently undersealed. Gearbox like new. Paintwork spotless (except the rust patches and a few marks around the door handles). So I offered the guy £400 and he took it. It also dropped our insurance by over £60 a month from the Brava's quote!

And then I took it home. I have never, ever driven something so teeny that is so bloody quick. Little did I realise it was turbocharged! Phwoar. If the Pug was that quick it would've been perfect! And my favourite thing about it? Well, two things really. Firstly, I put £20 in it on empty (£1.33 a litre at the pump) and it gave me nearly 3/4 of a tank. Secondly, you don't see them about in good condition really nowadays, which makes it perfect for me to fiddle with and make absolutely awesome. Razz

I don't yet have any pictures of it, however this is what it looks like, in this colour. However, I get the sneaky impression mine has been lowered, as it's a lot lower to the floor than the one in the below photos:

Don't worry, I'll stick with this club, and I will keep on improving it, however I think I've accidentally bought one of the best cars I will ever own until I can afford to run something expensive and powerful. cyclops

So, as I'm due to finish my final night shift and I have a couple of days off, my plans are to get my Vibe Slicks in the doors of the Metro as the sound quality of the standard gear is bloody awful. Also, I have some photos of it to put up for you lot to nosey at!

Oh, and I got my 'You've Been Rovertaken!' sticker in the post yesterday, so that's now gracing my rear windscreen Wink

Definitely on the cards! Just ordered some Vibe Slick 4s for it to replace the awful stock speakers in the back, and I'm picking up a new windscreen seal tomorrow because mine is fucked. Also potentially got a fourth alloy centre cap coming soon, as my front driver one is missing. Sad

They won't fit, I can almost guarantee it. PCD for the Metro is 95.25, and finding custom alloys with that PCD is hard fuckin' work because noone really made them that little! Razz

Daewoo are 4x100 and 4x114.3 PCDs mate, cheers though! Finding alloys for the R100 is a nightmare because it was like old Triumphs and the S1 Lotus Elise that had the same fitment, but the offset is wrong for those. Pisstake! On the hunt for a R100 fitment set of Alleycats. Wink
